Here's the super quick rundown:
Day 2: We spend the morning at Chris's office and then saw two more serviced apartments. The first was Shama Huashan, which was really great, beautiful, nicely laid out, and had an amazing clubhouse on the property. My only concern was the neighborhood - just looked a little drab and boring. The other was Shama Xintiandi, which was super luxury, and smack dab next to a hugely popular shopping and nightlife pedestrian neighborhood. Sounds great, but it would be a terrible commute, and who are we kidding? Chris and I are not exactly night owls!
Day 3: We started at Ascott downtown. It was very nice but small, and again, the location is a great area but not convenient for commuting. Then I had an interview at SCIS which went really well (took almost 2 hours). While we were driving around to kill time before the interview we stopped by some random real estate agencies and made appointments with Tom - very friendly Chinese salesman. After the interview we met with Elsa, a saleswoman we contacted through an online search. She showed us a villa near Gubei (excellent neighborhood and location), and two lane houses in the old French Concession. I really fell in love with one lane house, but I'm not sure it's really pratical or convenient. The villa was good, with a patio and BBQ and decent little garden.
Day 4: The day started again with time for Chris to work, so I researched more places online. Then I did a walkabout around the Shama Huashan, and still didn't find any appeal in the neighborhood, but maybe I just went the wrong way (which I tend to do). After lunch we met with Tom to see several townhomes in the Hongqiao area. It's a great lively suburban development very near the city, but much more convenient for commuting. One had a great layout, one had a stylish interior, and one had a perfect location.
More details later, but that's the update for now. Time for breakfast, and then we're off to see seven (!) properties with Elsa before I fly out. Busy busy!!
